Unless you decide to use a cot from the day your baby is born, you may choose a Moses Basket or Crib, for the first few months of your babies’ life.

Why choose a Moses Basket?

Moses baskets provide a secure, lightweight and cosey sleeping environment for your NewBorn. In JellyBean we mostly stock the Maize & Wicker variety, you will find the main difference between Maize & Wicker is that the Wicker is a little stronger but also tends to be more expensive. All Moses Baskets will have handles on either side of the basket to allow you to carry the basket from room to room which makes the use of a Moses Basket at the start very flexible as it is lightweight and can easily be taken from upstairs to downstairs. The Moses Baskets we stock will all have their own moses basket bedding and canopy, they will also have their own mattress.

Moses baskets can be rested on the floor, or you can buy a separate stand so that it can be placed at a more convenient height next to your bed. The stands are available in a variety of finishes such as white, cream & natural, depending on how much you wish to spend the moses baskets stands are available in both standard stands and rocking stands.

• Very portable, so easy to move from room to room and can be next to you in bed for nightly feeds
• Very snug and less daunting than placing your baby in a large cot when first born
• Be mindful though that you may only get a number of weeks depending on the size and length of your baby.

JellyBean tip: If you want to gradually get your baby used to being in his cot, start by putting your baby to sleep in his Moses basket inside the cot.

Buying a crib

Cribs are usually made of wood and can be bought flat-packed. They provide a smaller sleeping environment for a young baby than a cot and have the additional feature of a rocking or gliding action.

• The rocking or gliding action may help your baby to settle to sleep in the first few weeks.
• More time for your money – generally babies can sleep in their crib for up to 6 months again this depends on the size of the baby some babies may last longer in their crib
• All the cribs we supply in JellyBean have been safety tested to the correct standards.
• We carry Glider Cribs and Swinging Cribs, the Gilder Cribs can also be placed in a stationary position just in case baby does not like the gliding motion.
